ToEEPlayers / ToEE-Session3

The party returns to town. Moth and Pire are piled on the top of the poor mule and become conscious on the way.

We stop by the tower on the way in to turn in the bandits to Rufus & Byrne for 5 gold per bandit (including those represented by hands or heads), for a total of 9 gp for each PC.

Afterwards the party heads to the inn and rents the suite as a way to stay safe and more importantly guard the valuables. Spit goes to the druid's grove. Moth and Pire go to temple of St. Cuthbert where healing is performed in exchange for donations. As they leave, Diren gives Pire a couple of gold pieces for St Cuthbert. Gnarsh follows the duo up to the temple, gets healing in exchange for donations of his own, then wanders off singing drunken songs about the glory of St. Cuthbert. Due to some confusion on Gnarsh's part, many of these songs are dirty.

After a night in town, we hire a wagon and additional mule from the teamster then head back to the moathouse. We sneak in quietly alert for changes and reinforcements, but the bodies of the bandits still lie where we left them.

We sneak down the stairs and hear an argument in goblin, badly accented goblin. We attack and kill 2 hobgoblins, but 1 goblin escapes through a secret door in a pillar. After finding the secret door, we spike it closed.

Searching the area where we took down the zombies last time, we find a peridot worth 500 gp. We loot the hobgoblin bodies for what little they have. And we spike the other door into this area too.

After clearing the area, we take some time to load up the supplies from the two supply rooms at the bottom of the stairs into the wagon.

Then back to Hommlet. We sell the weapons, armor, and provisions to Rufus and Byrne in the tower at a great discount. But who else would want 50 spears, and it's good to have their good will. Then we sell the fancy loot to the moneychanger. All told we make a bit above 250 gp each.

Diren gets iron spikes from the blacksmith. Asking about it turns out that no one in town can make masterwork quality items, so no fancy armor or weapons for us.

Another night at the inn in the suite, and we head back to the moathouse once more.

Exploring by the zombies again, we proceed through a room full of trash and end up in an ogre's den. A powerful swing nearly drops Gnarsh the half-orc, but the ogre is eventually outmaneuvered and cut down. The ogre has a chest of coins, mostly copper.

Consulting the map he has been making , Diren declares there ought to be a staircase connecting upstairs in the corner - so it is searching and a secret door is found.

Before proceeding through the secret door, we check a normal door and find a few captives from a merchant caravan. Too bad for them we spent a few days dallying back and forth with loot. They are brought to the surface and left with Keg the mule until we return to take them to town.

Back underground, we proceed through the secret door into a small room. Two secret doors open off of it - one to the stairs up - as expected - the other to an unknown space.

We explore forward - Diren staying quiet in the lead - through some winding tunnels. Passing by one turn, we come to a room with three doors and another tunnel leading off. Diren creeps to the edges of the light into the tunnel and spots a half-dozen hobgoblins. We tries to signal the party, then dives into the shadows. There is some confusion about his signal, then Spit creeps up to the corner and takes aim with his bow. Gnarsh comes charging out of the tunnel and sets upon the hobgoblins while they are surprised - quickly dispatching the leader and an adjacent hobgoblin. Before they know what's happened 5 hobgoblins lie dead and Diren demands the last surrender at swordpoint.

The hobgoblin surrenders and is interrogated about the dungeon and what's going on. The New Master is controlling the place. Some bugbears are down the other corridor. The three doors in the last room are discussed - closets, one they aren't supposed to open, and hallways. Diren begins to talk to the hobgoblin about joining us for steady pay, but Spit cuts that short with an arrow. Combat resumes and the hobgoblin is quickly dispatched.
