ToEEPlayers / ToEE-Session21

Missing Sean and Jeff. We start fighting a troll with poor interior decoration, mostly bones and dung. It's going OK, but he's got a fire resistance ring. And then the troll and owlbear from the next room join in. And the owlbear loves Diren - hugging and biting and ow. But eventually it's all handled, and the flame tongue sword is remarkably handy in the effort.

Some valuable jewelry is gotten, as well as an unidentified magic necklace.

In the fight, Theldin stepped on a rusty nail and hangs back. Yeah, that's it.

Proceeding forward, we find the other troll's lair. It's messy but Moth finds some coinage hidden in a sack of old grain.

Rather than proceed into the water temple (at least we figure that's what the blue floor means), we head back into the fire temple. We find the audience chamber, empty. Then we find the secret door into the fire temple's main chamber. Resist Energy is cast on those who need it. We start sneaking forward, but nothing comes out.

There's a huge brass tube hung from the ceiling, glowing cauldrons, an altar with gold laced skulls.

Pire dips some chain into a glowing cauldron and salamander appears in a burst of flame. A fight breaks out. As Diren and Moth engage the one on Pire, Elmo rushes to the other table and flips it over. Another salamander appears from the toppled cauldron. The first burns Moth a bit before Diren skewers it. We kill the other one quickly.

Careful looting commences, using mage hand in case of traps. We get six gold chased skulls from the altar. Prying the fire symbol from the altar causes a wave of flame, but that doesn't hurt anyone. (and the skull in the bag of holding does nothing)

We tap the tube, it rings like a bell. But nothing happens.

We stir the fire pit to look for treasure and the tiny salamanders begin to grow. Elmo flips a table onto the fire pit and leaps on top of it. Moth zaps one with a ray of frost and it vanishes. He thinks some of them might be illusions. As they grow in the pit, we start stabbing at them, wearing away at the mirror images. They emerge and the battle is joined. It's going well, then they smash the table Elmo was standing on and he falls into the pit of fire. It's hot, hot enough to hurt Elmo even through his fire resistance some times.

We finish them off and search in the pit. We find a box with a fire resistance ring, a couple of potions, and an intelligent frost brand sword. We remember a story of a relative of the Viscount who was a paladin and carried a frost brand, which matches the story the frost brand tells us of its origins.

We consider the room looted and head through heavy bronze doors on the side. Down a short hallway (of burning heat) we find a path to the south blocked by another bronze sheet - along with the means to open it. We do so, to provide easier access to the ramp up we know is on the other side.

We decline to head toward the green light to the west, or into the disgusting grey light to the north and head back to the fire temple. North through a set of heavy bronze doors we follow the passage and eventually find our path reconnecting to known areas.

There's a small door off to one side - opening it shows an alabaster room with a crystal panel set in the wall. Angels appear and entreat us to leave our best weapons there to be blessed by holy power that would destroy the living. We remember warnings of untrustworthy angels and decline. Heading around we approach the same room from a different angle, but find a secret door to an area behind the panel. Inside? Werewolves.
