ToEEPlayers / ToEE-Session13

Picking up in the temple - we're diseased and blood drained. We opt to head out and heal up, and make a trip to Verbobonc in the meantime. Up on the surface, Jason and our two hirelings are there guarding the wagon - it's like midnight. We rest until dawn.

Diseases: Pire - Blinding Sickness (failed); Gnarsh - Athrakitis (success - disease gone); Elmo - Athrakitis (success - disease gone), Ghoul Fever (success - needs another sux); Spit - Filth Fever (failed), Athrakitis (failed)

On walk back, Moth and Diren walk a ways off to the sides of the wagon. In Nulb, we visit the old herbwoman and pick up some antiplague - 10 doses.

As we head out of Nulb, we're passing the tavern. A couple of drunk pirates are at the bridge. They try to intimidate us into paying them off. Sean: "Hey, die and come back as a wight, then talk to me." After some banter, fighting breaks out. As we start to mix it up, a pirate calls for more help from the tavern. It's ugly, Diren falls several times and Moth does too. The lieutenant calls a withdrawal and tries to flee, but Gnarsh rides him down and beheads him. We gather up the loot quickly and head across the bridge, where Pire channels energy to heal us.

On the way out of Nulb, we find a merchant group heading into Nulb. Seeing that we're covered in blood, some of it ours and others, they offer us healing supplies. A few healing kits are purchased. Gnarsh picks up a bag of apples for Binky, but they're pilfered by party members so he buys another one.

We roll into Hommlet and set up at the Welcome Wench. In Hommlet, the foreman Martin Vandelwig working on the tower approaches us to discuss plans for a house he was hearing we might want. He has a couple of plans to show us - 5 rooms around a courtyard. We pick out an nice octagonal plan, Spit volunteers to pay up front (3500 gp) and we can pay him back. (Probably to get rid of him and get to eating)

A relaxing or drunken or faithful yelling evening is spent in Hommlet. Pire attends the town meeting for us. Pire donates 1000 gp to the local temple of Cuthbert. Pire is promised a Cure Disease in exchange for his faithfulness (and previous donations). Spit is cured of his Filth Fever by the head druid.

Diseases: Elmo - Ghoul Fever (success, cured); Spit - Athrakitis (success with druid's Heal help)

We stay in Hommlet for another day to rest. While Spit is resting, an owl starts hanging out with him. He's confused, until the master druid tells him it's a companion. Diren and Spit just rest for the day to heal up a bit more. Pire disposes of the stirge at the temple.

The next day we set out for Verbobonc, planning on a four day journey. While setting up a camp on the first night, another merchant caravan passes by. The look a little sketchy, but Diren buys a couple peaches for a few silver.

Midday on the second day, we hear a pack of wolves howling nearby. They dash through the woods toward us. A few arrows fly out at them, then Moth casts a web entangling them. We move on without killing them.

Day 3: We come upon the little town of Etterbeck - at a crossroads, with a river port. We stop for a pint for lunch - the henchmen watch the cart and Pire stays out with them. A couple pitchers of ale, some salmon. Some cuts of meat to go. They sell us an "on the road to Verbobonc" special of fresh food for a day and half, for a mere 5 sp.

Local rumor - prison shut down due to corruption. Prisoners sent to Verbobonc or Pennwick. Some indentured to farmer as field hands. Some just released.

Head north again to a bridge. On other side is a fire and a cookpot - but no people. We cautiously send Elmo and Gnarsh across with bowmen on the other side. Suddenly the fire bursts in a bright flash, blinding some of us and all of our horses. Pire, Diren, and Elmo can see.

Diren heads forward and notices the nearby shubbery is illusory. He calls to Elmo and Elmo heads in - we spot a line of men in cloaks with fire-eyes. In the ensuing melee - Diren kills an antipaladin with a surprise stab in the back, but is then cut down by a mad priest with a scythe. Things are looking bad when Pire calls for the Blessing of St Cuthbert and the blindness coincidently lifts. With Gnarsh, Binky, and the rest of the party in things start swinging in our favor, which is good as Diren and Elmo are both unconscious.

With everyone else dead, the wizard turns invisible and tries to flee. He's lame though and slow - so we catch up with him and he surrenders. A brief interrogation - he was paid to attacked, by the cleric.
