StarWars2 / Session8

We pick up again on Jiroch, where Dran'liss is nearly worshiped.

Xutik spends some time painting the Revenant Lark - specifically, a zombie/skeletal bird with it's beak open in a scream, like a metal album cover.

After a bit of time training and such we take off and fly out to the system comm buoy/satellite. We pull alongside the buoy and Bib (the load lifter) pulls it into the cargo bay which is open to vacuum.

Xutik creeps cautiously up to it and starts poking at it. After a few hours work he gets it working, for now. It'll work for a few months at least. And after putting it back in orbit, the orbit will probably be stable for that long.

Cain places a vid call to The Accountant about the defective gel tabs produced by Genetech. We can actually get a video link since we're sitting right next to the comm buoy. We tells us the aqualish pirate, Binto the Black, has crossed Vurha's Blood. His hyperdrive has had difficulties - he and his surviving crew are limping to Tattoine, it may take a month to get there.

Also, the Bloods are assembling a crew for a job - they need a delivery man, if we're interested. It will be happening in the future.

Set course for Sullust! Dran'liss computes the course - there's no trade route connecting - so we spend 5 days in hyperspace.

Sullust is a big reddish-orange rock, lava channels and clouds of ash and smoke. All of the cities are underground. There are three space ports - Byllurun (the capital), an artist's colony, or a private resort. After a brief discussion we head for the capital. We turn the ship over to the system's autopilot and it guides us into a fine spaceport through some tunnels.

A protocol droid comes over to check on us as we disembark - pay up docking fees for a day. We tell him we're looking for a friend and want ship lists. He can't give us that, but points us to the security office.

We head over there, Cain tells them he's a bounty hunter and wants to see lists of ships that came through. After scanning his credentials we get set up on a terminal. We scan through the list of ships 7-9 months ago, but don't see anything for that ship name, type, or crew.

We split up after that. Dran'liss does some trading - making back our docking fees and food costs, but that's about it.

Cain tracks down a market with some scum and villainy, people drinking and gambling in the back. A small human pixie like woman asks Cain what he needs. He gets a drink, but Xutik has wandered off to look at engine parts and Dran'liss has taken a seat at a hookah. Cain also asks after his brother and his ship (the Pyrah's Doublet). He finds out that the Pyrah's Doublet had some trouble over by the resort landing zone.

Cain also asks about Binto the Black and his troubles, and his ship. Binto's known for hauling some decent firepower, but his ship is likely damaged from the hyperdrive explosion. Binto's hardware tends to be too much for his ship's power system...

Xutik takes advantage of the market's diversity to find a little part that fits in his silver box of mystery. It's cheap since neither he nor the vendor know what it is. We also pick up some food - roasted cave lizard and salted slug.

Then back to the ship and lift off for the resort. As we close in, we start getting advertising broadcasts. Mud baths, bathing pools, massage, spas, etc...

We land at the resort. A very attractive human comes out and greets Mr Sunder Cain. She asks if we'll be staying for a week, etc. But we're on business - Cain's a bounty hunter and we heard of trouble with Pyrah's Doublet. But he does get the rates for the services. And we get direction to the security offices, and Dran'liss gets direction to the high-end restaurants on site.

Dran'liss heads to the back of the restaurant to sell his high quality foods. He sells some pate and picks up some exotic cave fungus.

At the security office, Cain gives his credentials and asks about Pyrah's Doublet. The security office doesn't have anything in their records. But one of them pulls Cain outside - he suggests Cain trying Peeran a few tunnels over. It's a shadow starport used by pirates. The pirates there are often found at The Ion Lounge.

We meet back up at a cafe for a drink and pass information. After a decent meal we head out again. As we're leaving the resort - we see a ship lifting off a few klicks east, clearly there's a hidden starport over there.

We take a quick hop over there and come into a sunken docking platform. A flexible docking tube comes out to our airlock. After arming ourselves, we come into a large room with a few people and some cargo being moved about. Cain asks about where the bar is, but a Gamorrean grunts at him and points to a kiosk. The kiosk is where we pay docking fees - twice the rate of the capital starport. The Sullustan working is grumpy and doesn't speak Basic but has the head of a protocol droid as an translating. We pay up and head to the bar - the Ion Lounge.

The tunnels here aren't so refined - dusty, poorly lit. The bar is rough and tumble - crew of maybe half-a-dozen ships are here. Cain elbows up to the bar and gets drinks for us. Cain surveys the crowd looking for the well-connected.

We head over to a big fat guy's table (The Moon). Sunder Cain asks some questions, also asking the others at the table for some privacy. The others leave after The Moon gives them a nod. Cain asks about his brother on the Pyrah's Doublet. The captain got a line on a statue in the Sullustan Gallery of Ancestors (tomb complex). Captain thought it would be easy, but he was wrong - Sullustan's take their dead seriously. But Sullustans can see in the dark and the crew couldn't. Only 4 (Kessir Cain was one of them) of the Doublet's crew made it out of the caves, whole squadron of fighters shot down the ship which went up in a fireball.

If any of them had been picked up, they would have been extradited to Corellia or one of the big systems since the Doublet was a well known pirate ship. Capital would have records from the security forces, or maybe the Sullustan military.

As we're leaving the bar, the Bith bartender slips out after us. "If you want to know the truth about your brother, follow me, we can't talk here." We fade into the shadows a bit and trail after the Bith - through nicer tunnels and beautiful galleries. Finally we come into an apartment of smooth cream colored stone.

Bith tells us that Markessir wasn't on the Doublet - he had stayed with the Bith before, showed up afterwards with a guy in a robe. That a Jedi had saved him, grabbed him before the Doublet's crew had attacked the tombs. That he could have a new life this way, joining the Jedi on some quest, redeem himself. Happened maybe 6 months ago.

Bith saw him again, 4 months ago. Saw Markessir shopping at a survival gear stand - Breath Masks and More? Didn't see him after that. Looked good, not strung out. Not with the Jedi.

Why all the secrecy now? Not sure if Moon is hiding something intentionally, or maybe Markessir is trying to let people think he's dead.

We head out and to the market. It's a big airy cavern and better lit than many parts of Sullust. Lots of nice looking stalls, we find Breath Masks and More. Xutik dives into the goods, and Cain starts asking about his brother. But the Sullustan in the booth doesn't remember and would need a better date, or other information. Mention Markessir was with a Jedi - Sullustan recalls a human and Jedi across the way at a stand with antique tech.

Xutik perks up and dashes across to the stand ("From Yesterday") to look at things. Dran'liss comes across afterwards to ask about the Gree artifact - finds out it's a component rather than a whole item. But he knows a few collectors, if he wants to sell. Not now, but Dran'liss gets a business card. Cain comes over to ask questions about Markessir and a Jedi. Maybe something about an argument. (Xutik pitches that in with charades)

Cain leans in and quietly intimidates the shopkeeper, loosening the knife in it's sheath. Shopkeeper caves - Human and Jedi were asking about some relics, from the moon Umnub. It got a little violent and argumentative. They wanted the shopkeep to go with them to Umnub.

Cain heads back to the Breath Masks and More shop - looks up based on the date - two environment suits and supplies, delivered to a shipping services.

As we're leaving the market, a Sullustan woman approaches. Asks if we're going to Umnub. Her husband may be on the moon, something calling to him from there. Couldn't be reasoned with - Sato Sato may have taken him on his shuttle. How would he survive - rumors of bit of atmosphere left in the mine. We get a name and description and a picture.

We set out for the moon - it's all abandoned mines. We fly into the former docking area. Extensive mountains of tailings from the mining. We touch down but the docking tube does not extend. We put on our environment suits and cross over to the other airlock and manually cycle the airlock. We click on our flashlights and light sticks.

A few tracks in the dust are followed to the offices. Find two cots with a blankets, empty food containers. One cot has been slept in recently, the other has a fine layer of dust over it. We hear some skittering, some vermin around. Blasters are loosened or drawn.

We follow the tracks further into the dusty mine, through a maze of passages. At the end of a corridor is a pile of refuse including a broken down droid. Xutik knocks on it and the head lights up. A quick repair job lets the droid talk. Mines shut down 1.5 years ago, droid left behind. The miners came back searching for artifacts, but droids kept breaking down. Then 2 humans, one a Jedi, looking for Jedi artifacts. Here for a while - maybe a month - then they were gone.

Droid knows the layout of the mines. Hasn't seen a Sullustan recently - but hasn't functioned for a month and a half. Saw the humans a little more than two months ago. We let him shut down again then go through the door.

The heavy metal door is a strong hatch. the tunnels on the other side aren't mining tunnels - much older, more detailed, not like Sullustan tunnels either. Higher ceilings for taller beings. Dran'liss notices the tracks continue, but droidy type things start malfunctioning a bit. Bib the Loader is ordered back through the door. It looks like the air is fairly breathable here. We set the breath masks to filter rather than using stored oxygen. The tracks don't just walk down the middle of the hall, one section they jump out of the way of something, another they stick close to the walls.

We set out to follow the tracks - Dran'liss in front, Cain following, Xutik in the rear. At the point where the tracks dodged aside, there's a booby trap plate. After backing off Dran'liss shoots it and acid sprays out. A second shot results in no more acid.

We look to continue down the hallway...
