StarWars2 / RTFM

RTFM

Description

In a nutshell RTFM is a component collective. Mercenary really. It's after a complete complimentary set of components (at least that's what it thinks it needs).

Story

F'ruig levered the begrudging patty from the well seasoned hot plate. The under-counter kitchen reactor's arythmic grinding/popping noises didn't bode well. He didn't have money for maintenance right now. He didn't have money full-stop. No one gets rich sweating animal fats.

The air-con unit sat silent back and to the right having quit earlier in the afternoon as the reactor went on the fritz. Another poor omen for a protein-vendor scraping by on alley-caught meat. But these pan-humans didn't seem picky (enough to ask about his supply anyway).

The current customer's holo googles stared blankly across the counter at him. Waiting. F'ruig scooped the meat up. Forced it into a bun and slid it under the small letterbox sized opening on top of the counter.

The Gamorrean, one tusk broken and now worn smooth, pushed the meat into its helmet's grill with a single deft move. Fats oozed down the sand worn cheek shielding.

F'breq punched into his translator: "Want fries with that?"

Core 4 registered the entangled message / response as the vendors transl8-con and ?-ians 2nd generation commodity grade speex-zypher {.6738::98} babbled back and forth. Core 7 requested confirmation the tech was old news. Nothing to interest the greater RTFM. But try explaining that to Core 7. The new component on the block: outer hub trash silicon surge bridge.

Core 4 (and Cores 3, 33, 9 and old 001100) would petition greater RTFM to purge 7 during the wholes scheduled downtime. Get in 7 replacement. The greater whole: RTFM would be reticent of course. "Instability danger" this and "Unnecessary intra-wafer comm reconfiguration" that. Core 7 knew it'd get it's way. Sith-tech was good at that.

RTFM hung tightly, configured to a single component thickness around the vent shaft of the grill shack. Both catalyzing the streaming hydrocarbons flooding out the aluminum exhaust from the kitchen below and surreptitiously checking the pocket reactors firmware for a differentials between it and RTFM's vast store of interface software. The reactor's low logic AI, after a brief protocol struggle had found itself overwhelmed by RTFM. It had caused a handful of power outages: the kitchen exhaust for one and the reactors mainframe and emergency stability procedures for the other. Ho-hum. The kitchen reactor would go critical in 5.53 minutes.

Time to move on.
