Up - Varisian Wanderings
On this level the spiral ramp ends. The central column is topped in a massive snake head. There is much less activity on this level than on lower levels. To the west is storage, two bedrooms, and a ramp up. To the east is the breeder lair and a bedroom. On a 1 or 2 on a D20, a half dragon guard is encountered here. They check often to make sure that none of the creations have escaped.
The Breeder Lair
The door to this room is locked and the doors look pretty heavy. This 50 foot by 30 foot room looks like a cross between a laboratory and a zoo. There are cages stacked near the entrance - some empty, some containing strange creatures. Opposite the door is a platform that is about a foot above the floor. On it is an operating table. It is surrounded by bookshelves filled with books, jars, and flasks, and tables with what look like alchemical supplies. On the operating table is the dead body of an animal. It has been cut open and some organs placed beside the body.
When the players enter, a DC 25 spot check will tell them that the cages don't look very securely closed. If they examine the room, a DC 26 spot check will allow them to find the secret door behind the bookcase opposite the door.
Fight
On a 1-4 on a D20, the breeder is in the lab. If he isn't, then the sound of a fight will draw him here in 2 rounds. He will come disguised as a human and try to convince the party not to hurt the creatures, hoping that they will ignore him. He will try to hide behind the operating table or outside the doors and cast spells. He will use Major Image to create the image of a half-dragon rising up from behind the operating table to chase them from the room. He will also use Dominate Person and then suggestion.
In the room are one of each: Fungal Crawler (CR 3 each), Gibbering Mouther (CR 5 each), Slurk (CR 2 each)
