Since Big Eyes, Small Mouth lacks much of a system for monetary transactions or character advancement, the Fortune Point system to handle these aspects of the game is presented here.
A Fortune Point (FP) is a generic unit of character power, which may represent wealth, luck, accumulated experience, or some combination thereof. One FP is worth roughly an average person's minimum weekly wage - in our Star Wars universe, around 250 standard credits.
A standard BESM Character Point is worth 30 FP. However, most elements of a character can be advanced in other increments. Attribute Points can be advanced by tenths if desired
- 3 FP = 1 Health Point, Energy Point, or tenth of an attribute point.
- 3 FP = 1 Skill Point. Note that most skills in BESM require more than one Skill Point to advance a rank, although learning a new specialization always costs a single point.
- 12 FP = 1 Magic Point of ability in the Force or similar supernatural talent
- 30 FP = 1 Character Point.
- 2-4 FP = 1 Minor Item (1-2 Mecha Points, or Weapon Level 1) of Personal Gear such as a blaster, light armor, medical kit, breathing mask, all-temperature cloak, fusion lamp, grapple gun, etcetera.
- 6 FP = 1 Mecha Point in a personal vehicle, mechanized suit, or starship.
- 12 FP = 1 point in an Item of Power like a lightsaber, Force relic, or technology that would be considered advanced or unusual even in the Star Wars universe.
- 8/10/12/15 FP = 1 Major Item (3/4/5/6 Mecha Points, or Weapon Level 2-3) of Personal Gear, such as a landspeeder, heavy weapon, heavy armor, or droid.
- 48 FP = Lightsaber.
- 120 FP = Basic Starship.
