tie up illusionist... threaten to cut out his tongue if he casts spell. head to Verbobonc.

Arrive in evening, stay at Bronze Unicorn - inn for adventurers, and well to do travelers. Pay for a room and extra guards for the wagon of loot. Drag illusionist over to constabulary, Turn him in, promise of a reward of 20 gp if our story checks out - visit again tomorrow morning.

Heading back to Bronze Unicorn, notice a strange gypsy woman outside. Fortunes told, 1 sp. Diren and Moth toss her a silver each. Pire prefers his auguries from the temple. Moth's fortune is kinda generic. Diren - strong man in his past, great influence; fire magic, hindering me; will ultimately be victorious.

Diren tosses some silver to the street kids and Pire heals some street kids. We rent a quad room with a small meeting room on the side (5 sp each); and stabling for 6 animals (3 gp a night total).

Diren and Moth split the night watching the wagon with the guards. Toward morning, gnome and human sneak in but get noticed by a guard. Diren confronts, there's a fight with the inn's guard versus the two intruders while Robert the Henchman runs for help. It finishes before the rest of the party gets there, with the gnome getting away. The human is turned into the constabulary and Diren gives the 5 gp reward to the inn guard who got knocked out in the fight.

Pire takes Elmo to the Temple of St Cuthbert for restoration. Priests warn Pire of rumors of recruiting for the Temple of Elemental Evil in town. They're working on it here, but be careful. Elmo is healed!

Shopping! Upgrading bow & armor. It'll take 4 days to enchant armor. Elmo is put on leave to go drink with the henchmen who are off duty as well.

Back at Bronze Unicorn, note - summoned by Lord Komar. We clean up & head over. On the way, we stop by the constabulary for the reward on the illusionist. Elmo is off to

Lord Komar is at the keep. We show the invitation to the guards, peacebond our weapons, and enter the keep. Lord Komar is an elegant elf. Word has reached the Viscount from Hommlet that we're searching the ruins of the old temple. They want reports from us. We agree - he gives a scroll of animal messenger. And we get some room at the barracks when we need it, a couple of guardsmen, and access to libraries, etc.

Pire asks if he know about the recruiting in town. One of the town guard had been working on finding out information about temple recruiting in town. Killed about two weeks ago, in his quarters. His name was Seecas; and he gives us a location.

We give him the signet ring of the Baron of Narwell to restore to its owner, along with the journal explaining how it ended up in the moathouse. Along with Lareth's paperwork from the moathouse. There may be a reward coming from the Baron.

We exit. Decide to worry about the investigation in the morning. It's the third day of Brewfest! Street fairs, monks from the monasteries, street musicians. We enjoy the evening in various groups. While we party, Pire buys scrolls from the St Cuthbert temple and donates more gold.

The next day we head over to Seecas's apartment, but the market area. It's not in a great neighborhood, but not terrible. We meet Seecas's old servant, Edna, and she shows us to his rooms. They haven't cleaned up. We get her statement: she found him in the morning - he had an appointment with his friend Lord Talkun the night before (after she left). His badly burned body was unrecognizable - his body taken by the constabulary - they said they'd do magic to make sure it was the right body. Edna is being paid by the estate, to keep the apartment until his nephew Anton can come from Greyhawk.

In the room there's a big charred section of carpet. But not everything caught fire - maybe magic fire. Searching the room - we find a piece of peanut shell under a a chair, they're uncommon in this area. Diren knows that the Copper Tub is bar known for keeping peanuts out. Seecas had a fair number of guests, a variety of gentlemen come through.

Moth heads to the kitchen, asks the cook if they keep peanuts. The master didn't care for peanuts- too expensive. They converse about nuts, and cabbage soup. Moth does magic tricks to impress her.

Checking the bedroom, the room had been searched before - someone was looking for something thoroughly. In a hard to reach corner, there's a greasy spot on the wall- it smells familiar to Pire. Moth recognizes it as incense, used in Erythnul's temples (the chaotic evil god of war and slaughter). Moth notices St Cuthbert's signs in the room (the pages of the prayer book are worn, etc), probably wasn't a follower of Erythnul himself.

One of the chairs in the drawing room has a faint scent of the incense as well. Across the river, on the north side of town, is a bad neighborhood near a weird old building. Even the tough locals avoid it. The Copper Tub is across the river from that area.

We head over to the Copper Tub - it's a pretty mercenary crowd. Peanut shells scattered on the floor; each table has a small cask of peanuts on the floor. Spit talks to bartender - says Seecas wasn't a regular. Diren talks about evil gods, trying to draw out info, but no one has info on Erythnul in town.

Can't watch this place for the murderer since we don't know what he looks like. Maybe to Lord Talkun next - or walk bad part of town sniffing for incense or peanuts (locate object style).
